    Hi all,

I've just set up my own website but I'm deciding on whether to have google place ads on my pages, or to use possibly yahoo. Can people tell me their experience of these two options? And if you know of any other sources then I'll appreciate hearing about them!

    Thanks all.

    Hi irishbran77,

A good alternative to using adsense and the likes is to approach the advertisers yourself. Build up a following or a good amount of regular traffic and you can directly approach businesses who might want to target them.

Other alternatives to advertising revenue are affiliate marketing, selling your own products, membership/subscription websites, etc.

Not quite what you asked but I hope it helps!

You can look at affiliate marketing, but then you get into geotargeting your ads depending on where your visitors are coming from - not much point selling a US affiliate product is most of your traffic is from Ireland. If your visitor base is split, you'll need to do this dynamically, whereas google (or I presume yahoo) will take care of that for you.
Bear in mind though that the vast majority of searches are done through google, somewhere close to 70%, so you're probably better with google ads than yahoo's equivalent.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to see how it all goes, and in a few months will put up my opinions on the options out there as a help to other people.

    Thanks again.

One very important thing to take note is that from conducted surveys, it appears that up to 90% of people in Ireland use Google to search, so Google is where your customers are basically.
