Just a quick few questions about Freeview, my brother is looking to change his Lidl satellite system and has been looking at Freeview.

First of all does it work in Ireland (I've seen the STB's in Maplins)? And having looked at the channel lists on the official website, it seems you can pick up few channels that regular fta boxes can't (e.g Sky 3, Dave, Sky Sports News)?

Also I notice on the list that other fta channels like Scuzz, Men & Motors, NME aren't listed, can these be manually tuned or not?

Freeview is UK terrestrial, this is the satellite forum, do you mean freesat?

If your in a border county or on the east coast you may be able to receive freeview but the guys on the terrestrial forum can advise you better.

Maybe you are thinking of freesat. Freesat a lot of the channels of the freeview terrestrial system.

There used also be a set of channels known as "free to view" which were basically channels that UK legislation required Sky to make available to anyone in the UK through a special card in the Sky box. Not really discussed now as most of those channels are available free to air without any card and through freesat.

Is that official freesat though? I suspect that its a free to air kit which does not have 7 day programme guide or red button interactive features. If theres a power city nearby its worth checking for a sat4free box which is an unofficial freesat box locked in to NI region, still has the red button and epg though.

A complaint that an Irish Times Reader Offer advertised a service that did not exist in Ireland was also upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI).

The offer concerned a digital “Freeview” television. The ASAI found that there was no digital terrestrial television (DTT) service in Ireland and that “Freeview” referred to the service available in the UK.

It considered that the statement in the advertisement could lead some consumers to believe that the television advertised would be able to receive DTT via the aerial, and was therefore misleading and in breach of the advertising code.
