    Hi,
I'm looking for a laptop as my own is getting old and slow. It's mainly used for managing the families documents, photos, videos, music, surfing the web. The usual stuff really. My budget is around the €1,000. I would like a large screen but 15.5 would be the minimum.
I generally like the sony brand although my current laptop is a dell.
I'm not very techy so would appreciate any advice.

You could get something for that sort of stuff, for less than €1000, avoid Sony though. They're overpriced and overrated in my opinion.

Have a look around the dell site and you'll pick up something perfect for you for around 700 quid.

Dell studio 15 or 17 would be ideal.

Don't pay €1000 tho, that's far too much to pay on a laptop.

I picked up a Toshiba A500 15M for €700 and it is a kick ass laptop. Core 2 duo, 4GB ram, 500Gb HD, 16" screen and killer sound also amazing wireless as its gets almost as fast a connection as my wired system on UPC 10MB.

Avoid overpriced Sony's unless you like paying extra just for a brand name

Here I mentioned the models I was considering last year. I ended up with Sony and it's not too bad so far. Ironically, I agree that Sony is overpriced but this one just came first on eBay and, of course, the price was below market :) But above EUR1000 ';)
