Seeds and nuts are incredibly calorific and quite easy to eat a lot of.

What are your goals? Are you trying to put on weight? If so then you'll need to eat a lot of carbs with a lot of fat to spike your insulin and store calories. I eat a lot of nuts and seeds and they've never made me gain weight.

i see what you are saying but im not sure dliberate insulin spiking is the way to go .. yeah eat carbs but it will take time to gain weight, no body wants to get fat! If your body fat is in the normal range op, then lifting weights will help add the right kind of weight ...

egg whites are pretty much fat free and very low in calories I think, it's the yolks you're after. Nut butters (peanut, almond, cashew etc) are very high in calories and delicious, a tablespoon thrown into a stirfry at the end is lovely and a great way to add some extra calories.

Hmmmm, but aren't a rake of egg yolks quite bad for you? (I'd always thought there was zero nutritional value out of the yolks?)

    Any other suggestions?

No, eggs are very nutritious and very good for you, including the yolk. The yolk contains cholesterol but this is not a cause for concern. The whole egg in fact is the most complete protein humans have access to because eggs contain all of the essential amino acids that the body cannot produce for itself.

If you want to eat highly calorific wholefoods, go with nuts and nut butters as suggested, and use plenty of good oils in your cooking and as salad dressings, and use real butter, whole milk and full fat natural yoghurt. Make pasta sauces with cream. Avocados and coconuts are also very nutritious and very high in calories.

I was always afraid of having too many egg yolks thinking the cholesterol level would be too high in them.......

Cool. Have done so already. Overdosing on almonds and Brazil nuts in between meals:D

I also heard that pure orange juice and apple juice provide good quick nutrition with high calories:confused:

From my understanding, eggs do not negatively impact cholesterol levels in the body. There are literally thousands of studies on this subject, have a google and see. Having said that, I am very much a moderation person, and wouldn't eat more than 1-2 eggs per day. Anyway, this is beside the point, because although eggs are a fantastic source of protein they are actually really low in calories. I'm not saying don't eat eggs, but they won't help you much in gaining weight, particularly as they are so satisfying and filling.

Fruit juices are high in calories, but that is because of the sugar, not fat. Drinking litres of the stuff has pretty much the same effect on your blood sugar as drinking coke. I don't know if I'd recommend it. It would certainly cause a blood sugar spike, which would increase your appetite and make you want to eat more, but still. I reckon you'd be better off with smoothie - a couple of handfuls of fruit, a good dollop of full fat yoghurt and a bit of honey.
