    Hi all,

I am looking to buy a second hand diesel and was thinking of travelling to England to purchase one myself. Thing is I just cannot get the time with the kids so was looking at UK Direct site and they seem to have pretty good deals. Now I know you are paying a charge for them to bring it over but it still seems quiet reasonable. They offer warranty also. I would appreciate if anybody has done business with this company could they let me know how they got on. Any other tips/methods of getting English cars, would also be really appreciated. Thanks a bunch.:D

Any other tips for getting uk cars?

Get a babysitter / family member sitter for the day. Get an early flight, collect car, get the ferry back and be home for tea.

    Thanks Berty, most helpful.

I'm afraid in my situation it just isn't that easy, trust me.

If you are paying money for a car, you would be silly not to go over and look at it. There could be anything up with the car, and you wont know until its bought and shipped and already out of pocket...

Did you point out your situation? No.

Should I be expected to understand your "situation"? No.

I will therefore excuse your sarcasm because doing the leg work yourself to get the car from the UK is always the best option unless you have circumstances that will not allow you to take your potential saving and pay for a babysitter for 3/4 of a day.

Remember you asked two questions. One about UK direct and the other for any tips/suggestions for getting English cars.

And so for me to elaborate even more you said English, if you travel as far as Wales you can be back even quicker or even to the North!

    Thanks AntoDeco,

From the UKDirect site you lay down a deposit, so the car can then be shipped over. When it arrives then I take a short trip to view it. Never would I purchae a car without me and a mechanic giving it a good run over. Also, deposit is refundable should anything dodge be noticed.

'Has anybody had any dealings with this company (UK Direct) and how did they find their level of service?'

    Thanks again.

They seem to be reading boards, so you might get a response from them.

As for getting cars in NI and UK, I've done that a few times and it's really that simple. Take a day off, make yourself a list of cars you want to look at in the same area, check'em out, buy the car you want and bring it back.

Quinn and quite a few other insurances will insure you on UK reg, once you tell them, that you're going to import the car to Ireland.

Last time a friend of mine and myself were over, we flew 8am saturday morning to London and were back in south Dublin by 8pm. No rush.

It's a lovely spin through wales, too and you actually get a real good drive out of the car, so if something is dodgy, you'll notice early.

    /M

Have a look at this thread
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055634692

I am quite suspicious of whether the cars from UK Direct even exist. I was recently buying a car and 50% of the stock on carzone for the particular model was from them! It just stinks of flooding the market to me.

I emailed the managing director of the company who has assured me the cars do exist. He admitted that previously their "old" business model was to advertise non-existing cars and then get a real one in when a customer ordered it, but they have changed their approach recently. However I would remain highly sceptical
