RULE 1: Include the following in your diet:
    • Fruits: 2-4 servings daily
    • Whole grain breads, muffins, bagels, rolls, pasta, noodles, crackers, cereal, and brown rice: 6-11 servings daily
I can't agree with that. I only take fruit post workout. Whole grain breads, muffins, bagels, rolls, pasta, noodles, crackers, cereal I don't eat any of these things , 6 - 11 servings of them, will most likely lead to weight gain.

Persoanly I only carb up before and after the gym, thats my own choice, but the diet this guy is advocating seems to carb heavy to me...

I can't see how anybody could eat 6-11 servings of bread, cereals etc.
Also i think the thoughts on low carb are a bit OTT. I don't low carb at all bu just seems like advice been given on old school hearsay.

6-11 servings of grain based carbs a day = madness IMO.

It would be quite easy to eat 6 and not too dififcult to get to 11 servings of this kind of carbs in a day.

Remember that a serving is not what you eat at any given meal, a serving is a defined weight/quanity.

So a serving of Oats is uaually listed as 30g. I would have no problem eating double this in the morning for breakfast.

1 slice of bread is a serving or 1 Pitta bread is 2 servings, so a normal sandwich or a pitta for lunch would be 2 servings.

Say you have 2 slices of toast mid morning, now you are at 6 servings and you are only half way through the day.

A couple of Oatcakes in the afternoon with peanut butter. 2 oatcakes = 1 serving.

Pasta for dinner, a serving would be as muuch cooked pasta as fits in the palm of one hand. I could easily eat three servings here. Same goes with Rice or potatoes etc.

You would be surprised how quickly you get to between 6 - 11 servings of this type of carb if you are not watching your diet.

Personally I eat oats for breakfast, and would usually have a pitta filled with lean meat/tuna/salmon & salad for lunch. All my other carbs would come mostly from fruit and vegetables.

    Best Regards,

    M

people seem to automatically panic when they think of having 6 - 11 servings of carbs a day ... remember that the recommended serving sizes are small enough .. big bowl of porridge, couple of slices of bread, little rice / pasta would add up pretty quickly ... if your active and within your calorie range you wont get fat on these foods.....

most (but not all) people who are carb intolerant are 1. already over weight with excess body fat and 2. not very physically active .... anybody who is working out hard several times per week wont be as likely to have insulin regulation issues. ... the spark www site is very much an exercise related site as well as nutrition soi am guessing their nutritional advice is based around people who are physically active?

only problem is that when you deal with clients 24/7 you discover a massive trend and that is from my experience 90% of my clients DO NOT function well on a high (40% or more) carb intake.

So no thats not my practical experience with dealing with my clients who are predominantly looking for fat loss.
