What make is the pc EXACTLY - and have you tried going to the manufacturer's site for possible drivers available?

    Hi there Biggins.
    Nice to talk to you.
Was'nt expecting a reply back from anyone so soon,,,excellent.I will try and explain in more detail,,"the problem",,First of all ( actually this might be a bit long ) before the pc crashed i had a samsung phone J700,,,(the same but not quite as the new one is J700i)the pc and the phone were working in harmony with one another,,i think the pc got ( maybe a virus ) because when the pc crashed,,so did my phone ,,the next day,,,sent the phone away to be fixed TWICE,,they couldnt do any thing with it so they gave me the newer one,,but without the software ,,they said the same software would work with this phone,,,how could it ? its a newer phone,,,so i uninstalled the software for that phone (samsung pc studio ) and downloaded the NEWsamsung pc studio suite for apparently this phone,,everything downloaded,,but some of them didnt bring in the information with them ( files megabytes and stuff ) so,? ? ?,ithought this only happening to my phone ,,,but nooo,,,,i connected my wife's new phone ( early christmas present ) hers did'nt come with software,,they said when you connect it will download auto' and then you can configure the phone,,but the same problem arose ...you must be connected to the internet,,,,,,now,,,that said to me its the pc,,,,so i downloaded a driver scan thing,,,and they found that these drivers etc are not on the computer,,,do i want to instal them,,,,,hesitantly,,i said no,,,,First because i didnt feel to safe about downloading anything,,and second they wanted paying,,cant remember how much,,,but it was dear,,and anyway i dont know how to do a transaction over the net,,,so SORRY about taking so long about getting to your point,,maybe this info will help,,,,,I dont really know what the pcs name is ( i got this of a freind whom i believe built it himself,,,but I THINK it could be a COMPAQ,,,,,The other stuff is Microsoft XP home edition Sevice pack 3,,,AMD Athlon (tm) xp 2400+2.00Ghz 896 mb ram..? ? ?i dont know if this helps,,,this is the stuff that is working or missing in the in the pc,,,,NVIDIA GEFORCE FX5900 Ultra (micro') NVIDIA (r) nForce (tm) Audio Codec Interface,,Sm Bus Controler,,,Ethernet Controler,,,Standard enhanced PCI to PCI Bridge,,,PCI Standard RAM??X5,,,Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controler,,Standard,,,( something ),Composite Device Software,,,Now as i said ,,im very sorry for making this long winded,,this is all gobbldygook to me ,,,but maybe you can make head or tails of it,,,one of these or all of these things,,i reckon is causing the problem ( but i dont know im not that qualified ),,,,NOW ,,,DONT RUN AWAY BIGGINS,,,,See what you can do and i'll thank you in advance. I went into the device manager and the two items that have a yellow question mark are the SM Bus Controler and the Ethernet Controler,,,,,,,

    Regards

    Pistacio

    ok.
First of all what are you using? Vista, XP or Win7?
Let me know first before we go further...

To cut a long story short, we need to go to the "Device manager" and open it up.
In that window box there will be a list of all the physical items within your pc.
One (or more?) of them (listed downwards) will have a small graphic (icon) with an explanation mark beside it.
Thats the one that is possibly causing you problems.
What are they called (although I have my suspicions) that have the icon?

Calm please. You had started this as a new thread which I have merged into your existing one. This can cause confusion for people if they do not have all the information up front.

    If you read my posts

    Easier said than done.
You need to go to your manufacturer's website and download the drivers for your pc.
You lost these when your friend rebuilt your pc.

    OK sorry Mr Walsh
As i said earlier ,,im new here,,and im fairly new to computers ( about a year and a half ) but i catch on fast,,,,,,,silly this,,but i dont yet know the differance between posts and threads yet,,,but if im allowed to stay in Boards long enough im sure i'll get the hang of it,,,,sorry again.

Nobody's suggesting that you'll be removed or unwelcome from boards, in fact its quite the opposite :) It will take a little time to get used to it, but generally we keep related posts (items you and others write individually) in the same thread (chains of posts).

    Hi Pistacio,

I think in this case you may be best of seeking professional help, for the PC that is. There are lots of repair/service centers open around the country. Many operate on a no fix, no fee policy. They will more then likely also be able to give you an estimate of the cost to get your PC back up and working properly again.

Thanks Komplett.ie,,,it looks that way,,,,no other options,,,,,thanks for your suggestion.

There are over 6 million threads on Boards so it can get a tad confusing if someone posts on the wrong one :)

I nearly gave up reading your posts, try using the enter key, it's not like you are going to run of paper. Even Biggins missed that you had said XP in the midst of a wall of text.

Do the phones use a cable or do they use Bluetooth ?

SM Bus controller , yeah you should get drivers for this from the pc makers site as many other devices may rely on this. Yes you might have already named the brand of PC, but I'm not reading through the posts again to see if I can spot it.

Sometimes you can download drivers from different sites more easily, so check the .co.uk or .com or .co.tw or .ie versions too

If your PC crashed months ago you could give it a little more time, there should be someone around tomorrow too ;)

Anyway what make / model is it ?
