I know this is a bit of a weird question but do you guys know of any good Martial Arts gyms in Sydney? Especially near the CBD. Into Muay Thai and BJJ.

Larry Papadopoulos, who was Bas Rutten's wrestling coach if I remember correctly, has a place at 167A Castlereagh Street, which is directly in the centre of the city. I was there about 2003, and it ran full time, with classes in boxing, kick boxing, wrestling (freestyle and greco), bjj and mma. Theres also open mats most mornings. Well worth a look, especially if you'll be staying in the city centre itself

I did Thai Boxing in Bondi Pavillion when I was out there. Good club.

Can't remember the name of the place but I did a few BJJ classes in a leisure centre in Bondi as well. Was a bit pricey though

Had intended to go to Elvis' place but it was very far out of town.

I think the international judo team aren't that far from the CBD

I'd recommend larry pap, he's moved from castlereagh st, google boxing works in sydney.
I wouldn't recommend roots bjj in the leisure centre at bondi beach.

I'm in Sydney next month, why not Roots?

I didn't like the structure of the classes, same problem I've had with a couple of brazilian instructors ( not all mind ), too much focus on drilling lots of moves.
Maybe that's just because of the way I'm used to and like training though.
The classes in boxing works I found to be better, harder and more fun. Work on a position with a partner and build up the resistance, again more what I know and like.
If you're staying in bondi, sure train in roots and when you've time it's worth the effort to go into larry pap. I wouldn't say the same in reverse.

    Enjoy it whatever you do.
