Hello

I'd be interested in the 24 speed STI shifters.

My only question is that I have an 8-speed SRAM/Shimano road cassette with fairly close ratios. Would these shifters work with either an 8-speed compatible road or MTB shimano derailleur?

Sorry its fixed, just took a look at those shifters again, they are actually 3 x 9 (27 speed) so they would not work too well on your 8 speed rig. They will work on either a road or mountain bike once its a 9 speed, shimano Center-to-Center is as follows:

7 speed spacing is 5 mm
8 speed is 4.8 mm
9 speed is 4.34 mm

Same for road & mtb, the closeness of the ratio's does not make any difference once you are using the right rear mech.

OK, thanks. I was surprised you thought they were 24 speed as these are getting quite rare now in MTB groupset terms, so kinda figures.

Are the calipers long reach for use with mudguards? If so, I'll take them please.

The reach is 39-49mm, just check that that reach is correct, I have used SKS Bluemels mudguards with these and they fitted nicely.

I will have brake calipers if Chakattack doesn't want em and you can post em to Cork at my expense.

Mr Skeffington, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you about the calipers. I'm replacing the calipers on an old bike. They measure 57mm from the bottom part of the "arch" to the pads so I think the tecktro calipers might be too small.

What MTB STIs are these ... will these go with a road bike .. ???
Giant Seatpost ... how much setback does it have ... I need something with minimal setback? And I need to confirm if I need 30.9 or 31.6 .. can do that tonight. Also .. any issues using an Alloy seatpost with a carbon frame ....

These are the shifters, and they would be fine on a road bike, the ones shown in the link are greyish colour, the ones I have are all black:

Sorry .. I think I showed my complete lack of knowledge of the dark side there ... I was hoping to use the STIs with drop bars ... obviously these can't be ..

I will check the seat post size and let you know in the evening. It would be good to know the set back.

Thanks Mr. Skeff .. and sorry for the late response. The setback would have been fine ... but current one is 4cm ... but I need a 31.6 size seatpost ... so out on this one too. Sorry.

I don't want to hijack this thread at all or steal a sale, please don't get the wrong impression, but as I saw the the straight/flat Giant MTB bars I felt I should help people out and let them know that if they would rather a riser version of the same bar, they are available. I will let them go for the same price as Skeff here (Mr.Skeffington, please don't hesitate to just let me know if you want me to delete this post, I honestly don't mind in the slightest and would do it immediately if I felt thats what you want!
