Hard drive that plays subtitles?

I like to watch foreign movies on my laptop and can usually get an srt subtitle file, which will open in Windows Media Player. I'd like to get a hard drive to hook up to the TV, so I can watch them on the big screen (and free up storage on the laptop).

But is there a hard drive out there that will play these subtitle files?

it's not the hard drive you need to look at , any HD can store a subtitle file , you need to play them off the right program . i.e FLV player(google it) can take the subtitles from a file and play them over a movie, you'd need to adjust it so they sync up with the audio .

Now playing it off a tv , thats a tricky one , What i do is sent to the PS3 and just watch them there , but alas you won't be able to watch it with subtitles as the PS3 doesn't use FLV.

What you could do is connect the laptop to the t.v and use it as a second monitor , that way you'll get your subtitles , but you need to buy a cable for that

Thanks Kenno, but unfortunately I've been down that road with little success.

Perhaps it's because I've got an older telly, but after buying a cable in Maplins which set me back around 25 quid, I could never get anything but black and white picture on the TV (and it's not that old!).

That's why I wanted to play it straight from the hard drive, and obviously burning subs to a movie is a pain in the hole.

Huh . see what you mean all right , it's just i see no way an old(ish) tv can play straight from a hard drive , There needs to be a middle man with software to read the data from the HD and some sort of media player to display it to the tv.

Sorry can't be more help.

I've got a WDTV. Plays subtitles fine, hardcoded or .srt. Great lil machine so it is.

Should be pretty cheap by now too. Though u will need to get the actual hard drive separately.
