Can't connect to the internet

    Got a new Dell Optilex 780 that won't connect to the internet.

    All IP setting are correct. It's on a lan, which it connects to fine. Other PCs on the lan are connected to the internet.

    Got frustrated with it and wiped and reinstalled XP. Still no good. Any ideas?

    Can you definitely log onto the router config page (for example, 192.168.1.254 if it's the standard Eircom netopia yoke)?

    When you say that "all ip settings are correct" what do you mean? Have you manually set an ip, subnet mask and DNS or have you allowed the router to automatically asign these?

    Press win+r, type cmd and press run
    In the command prompt type ipconfi /all and post a screenshot of the results here.

    Edit: Have you also made sure that all connection settings are okay in Internet Explorer?

    Go to Tools->Options->Connection

    Select "Never Connect" for default connection and click "Lan Settings".

    In there make sure there are no proxy settings enabled.

    Thanks for the reply Antar, but it's egg on the face for me. It's manual IP settings but the gateway and DNS servers are different machines. I had them the same. Sorted now.

    No worries, glad you got it sorted, I've made similar mistakes myself when mucking about with routers then spend too much time trying to figure out why my internet will no longer work :o
