Can any one link to the best tripod I can get in Ireland or order online for a Canon EOS 500D. Looking to get it as a present for someone and don't want to spend more than €60. Many thanks in a advance.

spend 20-40 euro more and you can get a decent slik tripod. Any of the cheap tripods will be mostly plastic and utter muck.

Seen a great Slik tripod for €60 in Camera Exchange (Dame St).

In terms of what you are looking for, if you can try one out in a store - put your 500d plus longest/heaviest lens that you plan on using onto it and see how sturdy it is. With lower cost tripods many will be sturdy with a P&S camera but go south (literally) once you put a combined dSLR body/lens weight on it. Your primary concern in this regard is all about stabilising your set-up so that you can work with slower shutter speeds. Drop into any of the camera stores with your set-up and try them out before you buy.

If you are limited to €60 you could get them an SLR Zoom GorillaPod which is well within the budget. In some cases this is more useful than a convention Tripod in that it's easy to carry with you.
