Reported for breaking a light

Hi, in the midsts of the confusion of trying to negotiate the roadworks on leaving the set down area at Dublin airport this morning, I inadvertently broke a red light. Sure enough, a taxi gets right on my tail and starts blaring his horn. At the next lights he rolls down his windows and starts waving his mobile phone and shouting about how he's going to report me.

If he does report me, what can I expect to happen? I've only been driving about 2 months and it was my first time making the run out to the airport. It was still dark and was pissing with rain when I jumped the light, it's not like I did it through deliberate dangerous driving.

    Cheers

Ah ignore the idiot, he probably just had a bad day. I would say if the Guards acted on every report of other peoples driving by a taxi man they would never get any other work done. He shouldnt have been using the phone while he was driving either so dont worry about it for one second.

You've nothing to worry about. Anyway, him having his mobile in his hand while the engine is running is also an offence. You'd have as much evidence of proving he didn't make the call while the engine was on with the phone in his hand as he'd have of proving you broke a red light. Just be careful and don't feel rushed and let anyone force you into a pressured position you're not comfortable with.

    Relax, nothing to worry about

The taxi man was in just in a foul mood and took it out on you. If you weren't there it would have been someone else that got shouted at.

There is a new layout up there, it was dark and raining and you didn't know the exact way. Just take your time next day you're out there, you made a mistake but no harm done

not if he was making a call to the emergency services

but if you are only driving two months did you not a person with a full license with you ?
