I've had fierce craving over the past couple of months to sell my current car, 2 litre diesel and go spend the money on a soarer or skyline. Am I just being mad? Should i simply be happy with having a car that does nice MPG in the current climate?

RAWR ITS DRIVING ( lol ) ME INSANE!

Go with my head or my heart?

    BUY A SKYLINE!!!!
You know you're making the right choice, just imagine yourself rolling home in that beautiful piece of Japanese metal.
What ever about being sensible, you only live once, have fun while you can. :)

You only come this way once! Go for it, get a nice Soarer of Skyline
thats loaded with gadets and clocks. Press the pedal, hear the sound
feel the power and you'll be smiling all day!

If the circumstaces suit e.g. not doing high mileage go for it. Nothing like being pinned into your seat when you take off at the lights.

    I'd go for head.
Recession, and the running costs you save can go towards a sports car.

    What do you currently own?

He obvioulsly has to money to buy one now when hes contemplating getting one!

Go for it OP you've the rest of your life to drive a dirty diesel, Im in a similar situation myself trying to shift my diesel for a 200sx.

I could buy a skyline now, I'd have zero savings and be ****ed if an unanticipated bill came up, or I lost my job.

Having the money isn't all there is to it :)

Im assuming the OP realises the running costs associated with owning a Skyline ofcourse!

    I'm liking most these replies;).

yeah well i've a 05 audi. Really nice leather interior etc, which I'd hope to get a fair amount for.

THen i'd spend like 1k on a soarer / chaser / skyline. Get it from an owners club so i'd know they are well kept.

Spend another 1k on a kit, a couple more K doing it up in other areas.

Then have some left over as well.

The only issue is that i do a lot of driving, but i can live with that! The main issue to get around is my OH love of current car and her hate of all other cars that arent my current car. . . .lol.

Well yeah but see i can get a 1993/1994 soarer.

Get an r33 skyline, which start from 1993.

And then same with chaser, it be 1994 ish as well

Just be aware that a Skyline or Soarer may not be suitable for everyday mile munching. The running costs of using one of these cars as a mile muncher could be substantial too.

Its never been a better time to buy a performance Jap , a buddy is selling a 3000GT twin turbo for 4k . Just gives the idea of value out there(he paid 12.5k last year)

Diesel audi are way overrated by the paddys so you should get a good price and pocket the rest , U'll end up driving a far superior car :)

iv a moded soarer [350bhp and about the same in ft/lbs]
    get about 500km to a 70L fill]

my mate just picked up a lovely one aswell and he got nearly 650km out of a 75L fill ithink.

skylines drink more when moded as far as i know

Now Im all for powerful cars but selling your car which is worth a few thousand and buying a car which is only a grand then losing the rest of the cash on some upgrades which very likely wont add to its value sounds like a bad plan to me. When you want a car for everyday driving in the future, you will be starting at zero pretty much. It will be very hard to get into a decent car again unless you have alot of spare cash.

    20mpg = ouchie

If you're going to get that poor consumption, why not go for a v8? :)

cause the V8 is slower, even std the TT is the faster car LOL

u can get the V8 [UZZ32] with active air suspension and on the stock wheels its like driveing on air [provided its working right] and handles better but there very rare.

    if u want speed u need a TT,comfort a V8 and MPG the 3L non turbo.

the argument i have with lads in the pub is my 200K KM,17 year old car still beats a 08 BMW M3 over a qurter mile.
no point in compareing it to anything round track as thats more down to the driver,iv been quicker then a E55 merc with a bad driver and slower then a corsa OPC with a very good driver.
