College Network

    What are you not able to do on the network? Can you download any files programs you want etc. or is there rules? Also, can yo download music from RS and things like that? My connection at home is terrible and it would be easier for me to do everything on the college network

    illegal stuff isnt allowed.. I dont think porn is either. The rules should be on the isservices website.
    Basicaly common sense should guide you..

    But how do they block you from doing bad things over the network?a firewall rule of some sort-filtering software?

    Rapidshare yes, torrents no, filesharing software no.

    Porn is one of those gray areas. So long as you're not harassing or bothering other users or downloading viruses or child porn, College seems to have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy regarding what you do on the network.

    Obviously, I am not employed by College/IS Services and this is just from my own opinions and experience.

    They dont block you as such.
    Ports are blocked which deters torrenting.. but doesnt make it impossible.
    You log on with your username and password so they can pretty easily trace who did what if they need to.
