    hello

just to keep irish boxing fans up to speed. Jamie Kavanagh has turned pro. He will be trained by Freddie Roach. He will be managed by standing eight management and promoted by Banner promotions

Just to be straight with everyone i am Jamie's uncle so if i am disscusing him i may be a little biased but will try to be as impartial as i can be. But needless to say myself and the whole family are extreamly proud and wish him all the best.

No date has been set for his debut but most likley it will be Febuary

Can you give us some info on him please. Weight, age and past performances and success etc. I cannot say that I am all that familiar. Hope it goes well for him

    Hi Walshb

Jamie is 19 and has fought as a light welter for the past few years he is 5ft 7. He is from Dublin but moves to Spain some years ago with his family were he trained in the Malaga boxing club but never fought in national championships there but came over to Dublin for IABA comps and boxed for Crumlin were he started boxing at around 8.....we have a family link with crumlin and one of my brothers is a coach there.

As an amature he has won 3 ( i think ) juvenile all ireland as well as titles at Junior, Intermediate and u21. In his first seinor year he lost to JJ Joyce in the final and last year he lost to Philp Sutcliffe RSCI while 3 points ahead due to a cut over his eye

His biggest succes as an amature is a silver medal at the world Youth Championships in Mexico in 2008 were he was beaten in the final by a cuban

He spend a few week in Wild card before xmas on trial if u like and Freddie Roach and manager Steve Feder liked what they saw and signed him to a 5 year deal.

No date is set for his first fight and in Jamies own words " it will be when Freddie says so ".

If you want to know anythin else just ask

Thanks for that info. The name rings a bell now. The fight against Sutcliffe I recall. No shame losing to Sutcliffe. He's a very good amateur.

he is very good friends with Sutcille - both being Crumlin men.

He was ahead of Sutcliffe when the fight was stopped because Jamie had a nick, so stopped on cuts.

Yes as Vintagekits said their both Crumlin men. Jamie really should have won that fight, unlucky with the cuts, but anyway that’s in the past. I spoke to a person who knows the lads in the Crumlin set up very well and he rated Jamie well above Philip, but again that’s immaterial at this stage. Being more of an amateur man I was looking forward to seeing Jamie progressing on the amateur scene, that world championships in '08 four lads winning medals, great return (Ray Moylette winning gold). Hope he gets proper attention from Roach, you could never turn an offer like that down, and lets not all expect the world from him in his first number of fights, he’s a young lad and its all a learning curve for him.

I look forward to your updates on Jamie's career bambam, although not a regular poster on the boxing forum I’ll be keeping a keen eye out.

Boxingfan123, welcome to boards.ie - it's always good to see some of our American brothers on here, so feel free to drop in whenever you can. Yes, Jamie is an exciting prospect. There will be a pretty extensive article about him coming out in about two week, I am just waiting for a few quotes to coem back from Freddie Roach. Once thats done, I will set up a fan page on facebook and post the address here.

Im friends with him on facebook but im not sure he would want me splashing his facebook page all over this....the fan page is a good idea, maybe a bit premature considering that he hasnt even had a bout yet, but a good idea none the less.
