Has the economic downturn made your course tougher?

Has the so called "recession" made your course tougher?

In my course, deadlines for projects were tightened and requirements also increased. Grading is also harder. Some people from previous year are incredibly relieved that they don't have to repeat a year, to say the least ;)

I'm in DIT Bolton Street BTW, and it's the same for all courses in that campus. I have nothing against it, but I just found that there wasn't a dramatic change of curriculum or approach to teaching. The main change is the increase in the volume of work.

Some people are paying fees - it is not very rewarding for them to panick all the time because they have to meet tight deadlines. My year has learned mostly about time management, but that's only a tiny part of college experience. We had little time to explore new ideas and new developments in our area, etc. Some lecturers are also expecting us to start our own businesses, as a reaction to economy. It just doesn't make sense for us to come out of the college, without the knowledge about what is going on right now, and expect to compete against established businesses who are continuously innovating.

Is anyone else experiencing the same situation, or is it all plain sailing in other colleges?
