    hi folks,

i recently got me a mountain bike (http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=232&idproduct=29036) anyway i have been cycling out a few times with a friend around howth head and once down by the boyne river near navan. I am looking for some trail runs to do though since that what the bike is for, not something expert but something nice and gentle to ease me into it but particularly around the navan area. does anyone have any ideas or maps that they can point me in the right direction? my friend also has mountain bike and is looking to take it out.

    thanks,

    burger

The cycle shop in Navan might be able to help you or Navan Cycling club might have some info but I don't know of any myself! I generally go to Wicklow as does one of the guys from Ratoth that posts here.

What about Mullaghmeen Forest near Oldcastle in Westmeath - it's a beautiful forest but you'd have to drive there (unless you're really keen!)

Myself and another lad from Ratoath have been heading to Ballinastoe for the last couple of weeks. We'll more than likely be going next Sunday if you're interested or anyone else for that matter, just let me know.

The old Boyne Navigation Canal path goes fro the Ramparts in central Navan to Stackallen Bridge. The trail is a bit ropey in terms of access from there on but there are good road near the Boyne via Beauparc, Ros Na Ri, Donore via battle of the Boyne site to Drogheda.
Also near Navan is the Tullaghanstown Bog just off the Navan-Athboy -Delvin road. There is a fine bogland trail in Girly Bog near Kells.
