    Hi,

I have a quad extreme (+xp) in my pc at the minute and it does all the tricks I need - gaming/ hd encoding/etc

But I have the option of upgrading to a i7-870 with little cost - ie about €250 (mb, ram & fan). Will have windows 7 by then too.

So, is it worth it. Will windows 7 on my current setup be enough or will I upgrade for the extra cash (prob sell my current mb/ram).

not too familiar with the newer i5/i7's so - what advantages are there for me.

    thanks

    k

Do you do very heavy-duty encoding work? And what model is your current CPU and what speed are you running it at? If its a 65nm C2Q the answer is "maybe, just". If you have a 45nm C2Q EE its "why the hell are you wasting all that money?" :P

No the answer is "Yeah definitely go with it and I'll give you €50 for the processor" :D
