Delivering Christmas cards for a donation to charity

I have been advised that a group my son belongs to are proposing to invite people to leave Christmas cards at a collection point and then they will deliver theme locally for a donation of 50c each which will be given to charity. Whilst I think it's an innovative fundraising idea I am wondering if it is legal for them to do this as I thought An Post were the only ones allowed to deliver mail under a certain price until Jan 2011. Am I correct or as my son maintains 'just a troublemaker who should butt out and mind her own business'

I think that's ok...they are basically acting as couriers. They are not purporting to issue or frank stamps and the likes. It seems logistically bonkers to be honest, based on likely volume versus effort required, but I think it is probably ok.

This is not legal advice, although it may look and smell like it, and you can't rely on it.
