    Hey,

Group of us heading snowboarding in February. I've been to the alps climbing a few times but never for skiing and boarding.

We're going with the boarding because a few of us already wakeboard and want to compare them.

Anyhoo I need advice on where to go and who to book with. I think we're going to settle on Austria as it has the best conditions (correct me if i'm wrong) but what resort in Austria I don't know?

    Cheers,
    Eoin.

check out the FAQ post stickied at the top of the forum. That will give a list of tour operators. From this you can investigate prices for places in austria and compare them with other places too. You may want to book DIY and not through a tour operator. Search the forum with google for posts on DIY booking.

I've only ever been skiing once and that was to Soll. I loved it though. Loved the apres ski there and the amount of runs. It's a great resort for beginners and the ski school there is very good. I don't have any experience of snow boarding though.

Have to agree with the previous post. Soll is great fun, I've been there twice. Apres ski is great. Skiing is fab, you have access to about 8 villages. I only go to Austria now because the flight is approximately 2 hours 20 mins and the transfer is a maximum of 2 hours. As for snow boarding, I tried it once and didn't like it, I spent the day on either my arse or my hands. I took to skiing straight away. Horses for courses I guess. They say if you can skate board or wake board, you will get the hang of snow board pretty quickly.

    Good luck with it.

Saalbach or soll for starting. The après in Austria is just brilliant. I'm dying to get back in feb. Due to knee injury I took up boarding this year myself - after 3 years if skiing - and love it. Was on reds within a few days. Harder to begin with but easy after a couple of days falling on your arse and wrists - get wrist guards!!!!

Hey Dude,i wake board and i am qualified Snowboard Instructor, you are in luck very similar, but the main difference with the two is this-

Wake is heavily reliant on your back leg pressure where as snowboarding you need to be centered over both feet equally, you will find this the hardest thing to deal with, couple with the fact that you are travelling down a gradient, you need to go with the slope and keep your body at a 90 degree angle to the board at all time.

Defo get some lessons, you will get injured if you snowboard like you wakeboard - i did and broke my collar bone the 1st year snowboarding!

    Have Fun :D

An alternative to Soll would be meribel , huge amount of terrain and very good for beginners and all levels really - fly to geneva - 1hr private transfer will cost abput 600 for 7 people and get your own accom - cheap as chips if ya do it right !
