The chairman of Galway hurling board stepped last night. High time too imo. Any thoughts?

Didn't think he would last too long after he started fighting with the Killkenny officials. Whats the story with Mullagh now I wonder?

It was with the Galway mentors he was fighting with in the match vs Killkenny, not the cats. Thats why he should have stepped down for the start.

The stroy with Mullagh???? The vice chairman now that Micko has stepped down is from where???? Yes Mullagh:D

I'm from the west, no hurling where I come from but I've been going to hurling matches since 1988. Galway hurling is in a poor state.

On the face of it they have an extremely strong case but are they willing to take it all the way? Wont make too many friends Id imagine if they do.

From what I heard a defender was coming out with the sliothar in the dying seconds and by all accounts legitimately hand-passed the ball, the referee deemed it be a throw however and gave a free-in to Loughrea from which the winning score came from, cue much pushing and jostling of the referee. Portumna await should be tasty after the last time the two met in the final!

Thats an accurate assesment of what happened in the closing minute of the semi, but it has nothing to do with the appeal Mullagh are lodging which is in relation to the now resigned chairman, who chaired the committe that appointed the referee and created the fixture for the semi while he was supposed to be serving a suspension, so in affect the game should never have went ahead, as it was never fixed by a committee who had neither the power or juristiction to do so.

It would actually be an improvement if he started fights with other counties officials. He usually just started fights with his own county men.

Mullagh have appealed to the Connacht Council and will abide by their decision.

Can see nothing only a decision in their favour tbh if the letter of the law is followed they have a very strong case, can anyone from Galway tell me were other fixtures made that night aswell as this could have very far reaching consequences if so, as every team that was beaten will be entitled to have a replay if Mullagh succeed.

Yes, you are correct. Not only on that night but in the weeks before hand too. Another fine mess. Glad I'm a footballer.

Not only that Premierstone, every team which are beaten will be REQUIRED to replay it. The game's will be declared null and void, so even if the team was hammered or otherwise had no objection to the result then they would have to replay the fixture. It could cause major chaos. My guess is they will rule against Mullagh.

Rematch will never happen as all fixtures for the last 3 weeks will have to be replayed, Juniors, Minors etc, nightmare scenario, and what about suspensions and red cards, is it ok to whack a ref just because of a fixture cock up, which means Mullagh will have to play with the suspensions. I think for Mullagh " thems the breaks" dont go down the route of Portumna 3 years ago where they only made fools of themselves. Make a resolution to come back fighting next year and win it outright.

WTF! Portumna never appealed the outcome of the county final against Loughrea. They made comments directly after the game to the press and this was spread accross the country in the media and then were sanctioned by the county board for those comments.

Did Portumna not come back the year after stronger and won the county final and all-ireland!

People have this impression that portumna complained about this but all it was, was a few comments in the heat of the moment after a devastating loss in a county final that were blown way out of proportion by an over active media!
