The gfs laptop, an Acer Aspire 5050, is telling her her disk drive is corrupted or missing. When she tries to click for solutions nothing happens. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Is there anything inside the drive? It sounds like its looking for something on a disk and its not inserted. Give us more details.

Nah there's nothing inside. When she puts a CD in it makes the sound as if it's about to start running the CD and then it stops.

    Any helpers?

Ok when you put a cd inside does it actually read the cd/dvd or does it not read anything?

Is this the problem where the CD/DVD drive doesn't show up in My Computer but does show in Device Manager with a '!' icon? If so, check this article.
