If this is the new sky epg, don't bother - i think it is useless. writing is too small on screen to read.

Never got any mail to inform me of the new EPG arriving but my new EPG is after coming up on my Samsung 1.1.730.
Have to say I don't like it and I watched the short on Anytime the other night explaining how to work it and even looking at that put me off it before I had it.
Why they found the need to tinker around with it is beyond me, as far as I can see its more complicated than the old one, no numbering beside any of the menu options and this stacking of the programmes in the planner is not my cup of tea either among other things.
I'll live with it anyway but without doubt for the less technically minded its going to be very hard to get used to it.
Only addition worth talking about is ITV HD and even that is no use to me as I already have a freesat HD box.

the numbers still work but you need to tinker to work out what does what. (services,9,5, gets other channels)

I got a mail too, it's about feckin time. A mate of mine has a Thomson box and he got this about 6 months ago. Hopefully it'll be there when I get home as I do like the look of it. As an aside, ESPN went on the blink a few weeks ago and I was put through to customer support in Bangalore to confirm there was an outage. While I was on I asked the chap if he knew when the Samsung boxes where scheduled to receive the new EPG and explained that I was aware that the update was being distributed gradually by make/model. So he went off to consult with his supervisor & after a couple of minutes he came back to me with a response of "you have nothing to worry about sir, the update is automatic and one fine sunny morning you will wake up and it will be there waiting for you!". Nice:p

The new epg was on my Samsung this morning.
I used to have a Thomson and after the new epg came out it started to give me "No staellite signal being received" on all channels and this happened approximately every six to seven days. It needed a cold boot every time to get the signal back.
Before I realised it was the new EPG causing the problem, Sky had replaced it with the Samsung as I was still under warranty (although the Samsung was a refurb). I have had no problems with the Samsung since it was replaced (in June) so I will be extremely upset if the Samsung starts giving problems now.

I got the epg this morning. I didn't get any email though or anything through the letterbox. Have to say I really like it. One thing though and it aint my imagination, there is a lessening of picture sharpness, particularily on channels like sky news where on screen graphics are a bit more blurry than before.

i had that problem with my samsung with the old epg, so iam hoing that the new epg will rule out those problems.

    fingers crossed

    Yep got mine last night.
Cant say I love it but I'll give it a chance to grow on me, it's not like we can send it back!

Box has no lag and I'm very happy about that!

For the Series Link improvement alone the update is worth it. With the old EPG on two separate boxes, I used to spend a long time trying to get the machine to recognise it was part of a series. Now when you select a programme to record, it offers the option to 'record once/record series' and it is instant. The new EPG will grow on you, you'll like some things and you'll miss others.

One tip I would offer is that you go in to the sound settings and put the volume up full before you receive the update. You cannot adjust the sound volume with the new EPG, so if it's too low, you're stuck with it..

    I don't have it yet.

    Issues so far:

    - Turned off front indicator light, saved the setting, start a program, press stop, start another program and low and behold the light is back on even though the settings on the box says it is off.

    - Watching a program, press backup to see other programs, press play on any of the other programs and when it starts playing it will not let me fast forward or rewind.

    - Is there a shortcut to other channels rather then go through loads of steps ?

Can't believe that an update would be released without proper testing of all functionality.

Samsung model 1.1.730, op system version 1.32B12

Lets see if any other issues appear ?

    Anyone else notice this problem?
The interactive streams and text function on the SKY and BBC channels is'nt working since the new HD guide came out, i'm very annoyed at this as I used these regularly, I'm very pi**ed off to be honest.
I rang SKY today and they told me there are "issues" with this function on the HD boxes, the operator had'nt a clue and it was the technical department I got through to!
I asked is this an issue with all HD boxes with the new guide, even the boxes with the new guide since the start of the year and after a couple of attempts to fob me off with excerpts of the script she was reading in front of her she said it is and they're working on it.
Why the hell did they meddle with something that worked fine and was'nt broken, I find the previous guide to be far more user friendly.

Maybe this problem has been noted before and apologies if it has but I'd just like to know does anyone else have the same problem??

Can anyone help me? Woke this morning and there it was, new EPG, but I no longer have anything in my Other Channels, no UTV or Channel 5,all gone, and where on earth is the ITV HD? Not in my HD channels.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭John mac

check the stickies for tuning info..

ITVHD isnt on the epg has to be added manually.

Mine is jerky and slow to repond.
Not liking it so far, guess it'll grow on me.

I found that when I went to "other channels" nothing was displayed but if I then pressed "select" the list of channels I had previously tuned before the epg update would then appear.

My Samsung box had the EPG update last weekend - next day it suddenly blue screened and said "no satellite signal being received" even though the signal monitors were saying everything was fine.

Tried a reboot, even leaving it unplugged overnight then rebooting, but no joy.

The Sky engineer arrived today and said there was a full signal strength but he could not get it the box to work and concluded the update had scrambled the processing software somehow. He replaced it with a Pace HD box. Everything was fine until he did a forced firmware upgrade and, low and behold, it messaged "no satellite signal being received". Try as he might he could not get it to work.

He has left me with an Amstrad HD box, but refused to force the upgrade because he had no boxes left if it "bricked" that one. So, I fear an overnight upgrade.:(

The Amstrad boxes are next to be updated after the Samsungs, I have a Samsung but still the old EPG which I don't like, my other HD box is a Thomson and it has the new EPG which is brilliant.

Are both feeds working properly? If the second one is missing the HD box when updated to the new software will show no signal being received. You can switch off an option for it to work with only one cable but it doesnt allow sky anytime to work.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on how good the new EPG is, since my two boxes didn't last long enough after the update for me to test it.

Thanks for the info - I live in an apartment block and we only have one feed per apartment.

What is the option I need to switch off if and when the latest box receives the update?

I'll try this as soon as the new Amstrad box has its update. It is surprising the Sky engineer did not seem to know this (or maybe not).

I had an HD upgrade during the week and now have a Samsung box. Any idea when I might get the new EPG?

Since my EPG updated, I have had a problem when watching BBC4 through the Other Channels section.
The problem is that the programme information box won't switch off. If I press backup it goes away for about 10 seconds, but then comes back on again. No matter how many times I have tried to switch it off it's always the same story. I've tried resetting the box, deleting BBC4 and adding it again, all to no avail. This only happens on BBC4. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? It makes it nearly impossible to watch subtitled programmes like Spiral!

Same problem here but with BBC3, very annoying, it shows the lack of testing of the simple functions with the epg upgrade.

Samsung Sky+ HD boxes to get EPG update

    Thursday, October 29 2009, 18:11 GMT
    By Andrew Laughlin, Technology Reporter
    160x120_sky_skyhd_logo01.jpg

Sky has announced that all Sky+ HD customers with set top boxes manufactured by Samsung will get the new electronic programme guide in the "next two weeks".
The new EPG started rolling out to Sky+ HD boxes on March 10. Systems manufactured by Thomson were the first to receive the update.
Subscribers with boxes produced by Pace were next to get the upgrade throughout April.
At the start of last month, Sky started contacting the 30,000 Sky+ HD customers with Samsung boxes about the process for them obtaining the new EPG.
Speaking to Digital Spy, a Sky spokesperson said that all Samsung HD boxes will be migrated to the new guide over the next few weeks, before the team moves on to receivers manufactured by Amstrad.
"Not only do all those customers with Thomson and Pace Sky+ HD boxes now have the new Sky+ HD guide, but over the course of the next two weeks we'll also migrate all remaining Samsung HD boxes too," said the representative.
"Once this is successfully completed, we will then move on to the Amstrad boxes. As always, we thank all customers for their patience and positive feedback so far."

It's quite a leap between the "old" programme guide and the new one. Looks more complicated.

I got the hd epg update a few weeks ago, but I only got the letter from sky about it yesterday. This was obviously posted after I received the update.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 church warden

OK, so my replacement Amstrad box got the EPG update a couple of days ago. Thanks to the earlier advice in this thread regarding losing a picture with the new EPG in a single feed mode, I then made the "single feed" setting switch needed to get a picture. So my next question is:

Is there another setting switch I need to make in order for the box to maintain a satellite picture after I have watched something recorded on the hard-drive? Since the EPG update and setting to single feed, if I watch anything I have recorded, when I finish and return to the live feed I simply get "no satellite signal being received". I then have to unplug the box, leave for a couple of minutes and restart it in order for it to show a signal. This happens everytime!

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated, else it means a call to Sky and last time this simply resulted in a visit from a Sky engineer who did not know how to fix the "single feed" issue I had previously.

WEll update for me... well, my ma's Sky is that it's rubbish. You can't seem to skip forward in the Guide more than a few days, the A-Z search is either gone or broken, the four button setup on the remote seems to be nullified, the menu's just far too much extra work to navigate through and I thnk it's slowed the whole system down... now going to channel the thing pauses for a few seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

got it today. as well as the letter - i'll say this, at least TV Guide button is now useable due to still bein able to still see/hear current program. damn, the old thing was.. -around for how long?!! still is. poor standard viewers.. BUT quick search via up/down w/o changing channel is harder to read/follow now. so in a sense for me its roles reversed
