Thinking of getting some glasses in Specsavers, they seem to have the best deal..i.e. '2 for 1'....anyone any opinions on purchasing there?

You get what you pay for.

hi, go to specsavers and get eye test and ask for your prescription.
then go online to Zenni Optical and order glasses.
Prices start at $8 with prescription. My husband, mother and 3 friends have all ordered glasses and are delighted with them.
The postage is only $6 approx and they have a great selection. Full measurements are given - just measure your current glasses.
    Good luck:)

just remember if you need/want to get extras then price soon rises sharply

    e.g.
scratch proof coating x 2 (if you get the 1 pair + 1 pair free option)
my prescription required paring down one lens so thats extra x 2 again
then if you get reaction lens etc...

Don't get the 2 for €99 anyway, lasted a month each. Then they keep you on a mailing list and because I got the eye test done in a different store to where i ordered the glasses I got umpteen letters till I made them stop.

Pathetic customer service, opticians who barely speak English and want to get rid of you the second you arrive, same with the sales assistants. That was my experience anyway and never, ever, ever again. If you need a quick glasses service I recommend vision express, top notch albeit with a little extra waiting around the store.

Went to specsavers a few years back for glasses & contacts. they were able to get my glasses prescription right and i bought glasses from them but they couldn't get my lenses prescription right. They gave me lenses that I told them were not anywhere near the previous prescription. They did another eye test & still couldn't get them right so I went to my usual eye specialist.

I've heard a few more stories like this so make sure that you are happy with them before they order the glasses

specsavers are a franchise operation, so service will vary between outlets.

Pricewise, they're fine once you don't go for the added options - there's absolutely no need for them and they're not as good as claimed.

The main reason they're relatively cheap is because they have a limited number of frame designs and they are made in huge bulk, so once you don't mind having specs similar to many other people, then go for them.

I've had the same 2 pairs for 3 years now without any problems.
