Got a new car radio myself. One of those fancy voice-activated ones.
If I say 'Rock' while driving, it tuned in to Phantom.
Or if I say 'easy listening', Q102 comes on.
On the way to work today, this fecker cut inside me with no indicator, and I shouted 'STUPID PR*CK!!!' ... and Gerry Ryan came on the radio.

You probably have one of those steering wheels with the radio controls on them, and are upping the volume instead of using your indicators.

Or you could be picking your ears clean during the commute which gives the apparent rise in volume.

at least not radio 1 morning show where your man cathal is breathing extremely loud through his noise. Have to turn off sometimes. I believe people regularly complain.
