Dell Inspiron 1525 Charger

    Hi folks,

I need a charger for my laptop, a Dell Inspiron. For the last couple of days Ive been using the charger for my girlfriends netbook, but this is merely keeping the battery at the same level rather than charging it.

Do I need to order a new charger off Dell or would a computer store like PC World stock these or a universal one that I could use?

    Thanks....

Might be a faulty charging circuit if that's the case. That's either a dying battery, or the actual laptop itself.

I've got a similar problem where if I boot the computer with a low battery while plugged in... it just runs off the AC and doesn't charge. If I pull the cord and plug it in again, it charges happily.

Thanks Dartz, but the laptop is fine. I just had to give my charger to my mother after I 'broke' her PC despite her being the last one to go near it :o

But anyway, do you know whether I have to order a new one or can I get one in the shop that will suffice?

Universal adapters aren't a good idea for Dells, they tend not to charge the battery. Your girlfriend's netbook probably has a lower wattage adapter than what your laptop needs, hence why the battery won't charge. You don't have to go to Dell directly, where I work we sell new Dell PA-10 adapters which suit most of their laptops.
