Back transmitting again alongside the four national stations - and with a spiffy new testcard, complete with (I'd guess) a moving line to check the sync of audio and video!

The moving line on the testcard is if the received picture becomes frozen the engineers know when something is up, though sync the audio and video is also done.

Looks like a slightly modified Philips PM5644 test card.

We all know that this is not really a test. They know the score at this stage technically.
Its just buying time before a possible launch, (Which should have happened at least 3 years ago.)

My tv shows the test channel as HDTV!

Since the rescan it also shows all the other channels as "encrypted" but displays them anyway.

    "576i" on mine, e.g. SDTV.

The reason it's showing up as HD on certain TVs is because, unlike the the other channels, it's flagged as "advanced codec HD digital television service". It's running at about 8Mbps but at SD resolution.
