    Hi All,

A friend of mine is leaving the country he got 00 E240 car....thinking about buying the car from him... I am getting a very good deal... the car is UK car full history I think it is about 100k mileage...only problem it need a key...it looks like the VRT is around 900 Euro...

Looking for advice here about the car....I know it is a big engine but the price is very attractive with the cost of the VRT and the keys still it is less than its price on carzone....

    Thanks in advance...

I'd be looking at around 2k, probably even lower seeing as getting a new key will be costly.

    Around that ballpark.

When you say new key, do you mean it has no keys at all?

The keys is not working... doing a search here It seems it is a common fault...some recommend using Autokeys.ie as a cheap option for this fault

I'd have it checked out, could be the immobiliser itself that is knackered rather than the keys. The outcome of that would determin how much I would pay for the car.

If it helps, I got one done recently for someone and it was €220 at a main dealer. They'd probably discount on a second one but I'd allow about €350 IF that is the only problem

I was looking through the VRT online service... and there is 2 options for this car...one give the VRT value of about 950 Euro and the other is about 2700 Euro which is for the smaller engine...is this accurate or it is better to call them? 2700 for VRT is out of question for me

Talking to the VRT office... they told me that this car VRT value is 2690 and that because the estimated selling value for the car is about 7500 Euro...so this mean if I got the car it would make the total cost on me about 3500 would this be a good deal?

this is more information about the car:
    Make

    MERCEDES

    Model

    E240 ELEGANCE AUTO

    Transmission & fuel type

    AUTO 5 GEARS PETROL

    Body type

    4 DOOR SALOON

    Colour

    BLUE

    Number of gears

    5

    Engine capacity

    2398cc

    Year of manufacture

    2000

    Thanks

I reckon 7.5k is what the car would've been worth two or three years ago. Right now W210 E-Class are hardly flying out the doors, particularly the E240. There are also plenty of cars on carzone that you can use to appeal that valuation.

No it's a terrible deal that car has not got a good resale value here because of the tax bracket. Its real value is about 4500 euro. to find out ring a few car dealers and tell them you are looking to sell your car for cash.Say you have an 00 e240 and see what they offer you!!!!!

A 9 year old E240 auto is not worth €7,500. Unfortunately if you want to appeal this value you first have to pay the VRT and then go through the VRT appeal process which can take upto 6 months afaik.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Your friend needs to give it to you pretty much for free for it to make sense. He's much better off selling it back to the UK for maybe 2-2.5k sterling or something like that.
