    Hey;

    I know quite a few of the posters here have planet X bikes.
    I bought a planet X recently (missed the ultegra deal).
    My bike came with Dia compe BRS 100 brakes.
    The brakes are very dissapointing.
    Poor in dry conditions and I think they make me accelerate in the wet(almost).
    I have a couple of questions;
    (1) anyone else have these brakes, if so how do you find them.
    (2) will swisstop brake pads fit the dia compe alloy holders.
    (3) should i replace the entire brake ultegra (65 euro) or just the blocks.

    Try the blocks first, its easy to do. Just make sure you get the right type for your rims - probably aluminum.

    Make sure the blocks are fitted back on right, otherwise they will squeal!

    My PX DA build from last year arrived with Dia Compe BRS 100 brakes. Must say I didn't like the look of them but used them for a month, I'd intended changing them to DA when I found a set at a reasonable price. Found a pair of DA 7800 for less than €90 and not only did they complete the group they were brilliant for slowing/stopping. My impression was that the Dia Compe were "spongy" with poor stopping power. I fitted the front caliper to my alu bike and fitted it with DA blocks, I thought it was poorer than the Tiagra it replaced. My review of them would put them above Alhonga deep drop (on my commuter)and below Tiagra, so I would say go for the Ultegra! Not sure what to do with the pair I have in the shed.

    I agree, really spongy!
    I think i will upgrade them.
    I promised myself i wouldnt upgrade anything on this bike as its my winter trainer but they really are poor/dangerous. :eek:
