Sorry if this has been asked before.
Does anyone know what ever happened to Father Ted's blue Cortina after the series finished?
    Scrapped?

AFAIK it was an ex-Garda car that RTE used for prop work.It went back to RTE and lay around for a while and was most likely scrapped.

it might be in a large unit in kildare ;)

where their is a lot of ex irish tv cars in it !

last time i was up their , milieys fuego & blackie conners transit was in it :)

plus loads more cars & trucks .

i pulled a manta from a unit next door to it & got a quick look around when the doors happened to be opened !

why would it have gone to RTE? Its a Channel 4 programme....i would suggest it was /is owned by ione of those guys who supplies cars to TV companies.

.....Hah ! Your right of course. I know one of the people that was heavily involved in it at the time. At some point in the last few years they remarked that the car just sat around for ages then dissapeared. I wasn't really thinking when I wrote RTE.

Glad you're on the ball though !! :o

The above kinda makes sense that it was a state car, as state cars dont need to have a Insurance cert, look at the window, only a tax disc.

I'm curious to know why the Escort wears its correct original plates as does the A55 Van yest they made up other plates for the Cortina and Rover, using plates that someone knew were not in circulation ?

I was there when they filmed it in Ennistymon. As far as I remember there was a fire. there was definitely an explosion. They had to reshoot it a few times as a load of travellers who were camped out beside the graveyard kept shouting Feck Arse etc.

Ahh just sleep on it, it'll look much better in the morning. :o

They actually had three of them: the two that were wrecked and a good one which was sold afterward. Don't know why they couldn't just use two - do the good-car scenes, including the one with the good car and the car pictured above, then wreck the second car, just like it occured on-screen.

I think the wrecked one is still in Connolles garage in Kilfenora, Clare.

A '89 Datsun? Didn't they become Nissan in the early 80s?

They were Nissan-Datsun for a while. My Father had an '87 Nissan-Datsun Sunny van way back when Mick McCarthy was still captain fantastic. It was relatively new and had more holes than a block of swiss cheese.

    Truck! Two trucks!

Nah it was a special effects company, can't remember what they're called. The same company that did the Jack-falling-off-the-cliff scene, I think.

It was around 1984 that they phased in the nissan name IIRC.

It's also the pre-87 letters for Laois.
    Dublin was SI aroundthis time...

Cost them an absolute fortune to do that in lost brand recognition etc.

LOL yeah that wasn't very clever. I remember most people kept calling them Datsuns until at least about 10 years after the name change. Maybe they should only have implemented the name change in Japan itself.
