    Hi all,

Just wondering what the story is for the graduation ball? Is it a sit down dinner? Also, what's the dress code? Black-tie or just plain old suits?

Life.dcu.ie says that theres dinner at 9pm. Im taking black tie to just mean wear a suit, it says that on all the formal balls.

This is no dig at you, as I realise when you reach a critical mass it's hard to go against the grain, but why do people turn up to black tie in a suit? Do they not enjoy wearing their tux or something? It's seems to be a big DCU thing as well, as opposed to other colleges, where black tie means black tie.

I think the ticket price is awful steep and black tie is just more unnecessary financial pressure in a recession. One hotel a week is closing down in this country, surely they could have got a better deal from someone. €65 is a ridiculous price. I was all set to go but as the date approaches and I'm thinking about, I'm not sure I can afford it. And I know a few others in who are in the same boat. Bad buzz.

By the look of things, it's not black tie. So you'll be fine.

€65? For a meal and an evening? You'd spend that on a night out. I know this seems harsh but I'm sorry, if you're not willing to spend €65 quid on a evening, well there's much nothing anyone can do for you.

Same as any of the other formal balls in DCU afaik. 4 course meal and then music. Anyone know why tickets for the Grad Ball cost €65, while tickets for the Clubs & Socs Ball which is on in the Crowne Plaza aswell are only €45?

Well if the drinks are free then there's no problem. Oh wait, their not, so it's not comparable to an ordinary night out. It'll cost twice that othher sixty or so if a tux is mandatory.

If money's that tight, don't go. I just don't think it's reasonable for you to expect the quality of everyone else's night (worse hotel etc. It's not exactly the Ritz as is) to suffer, just because you have no money.

Clubs and Socs ball is subsidized by a sponsor this year.

I thought that myself but I range dcu at about 9 this morning and they said they all have sold out.

Do you think it would be stupid to try to go along and pay at the door or see if someone doesnt' show up. I rang the Crown Plaza but some girl answered that didnt speak great english says seh doesn't have any information about that. Probably is a stupid idea.
