    Hi all,

    I seem to have made a boo boo!!

    Initially my usb keyboard wasn't recognised when the pc was booting up i.e. I could not access the bios or choose safe mode after a crash etc. But when windows fully loaded there was no probs with the keyboard.

    I wanted to get into the bios to see if something was disabled which was stopping the bios recognising usb devices on start up.

    As I didn't have a standard keyboard with a ps/2 connector at hand I thought maybe I could remove the battery on the motherboard for a min as I read somewhere that this resets the bios to factory settings.

    However, when I replaced it and switched on pc, it was asking me to press F1 to enter setup to fix date/time etc. So nothing I could do. So today I bought a cheap old keyboard, hooked it up and was able to enter the bios and reset the time and date. But now I have the problem that it wont load windows. I get the screen where it says Microsoft Corporation (Vista) then it just freezes. I am able to boot to safe mode ok but not the full windows.

    What have I done?? :confused::confused:

    Try booting up the PC with nothing connected whatsoever (expect the monitor and power of course).

    If that doesn't work, enter your BIOS again and make sure your Hard Drive is being detected correctly in the boot options.

    Yea, I have just tried both of those options but still the same! I am going to try a system restore in safe mode now.

    EDIT: Still now joy! :(

    Problem solved!

    As the bios was reset to factory settings it seemed to be confused by the presence of the sound and network cards! I removed both of these and it booted up fine! So I added the sound card then and it booted fine then I added the network card and it booted fine again! All is well that ends well!
