Hi all just wondering if any1 could help me in my quest for a laptop, all the jargon is a bit over my head! Basically what i need it for is mainly music, I would like to use it as part of a live dj setup (i have an external h-drive with all my music on it, so not looking for something that has lots of storage) And also use it for puting home recording software on it incl use of midi. I need something thats reliable, compact and wont let me down at a gig! Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

This caught my eye too and looks to be exactly what i need, any opinions on it? http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20091029.p.Targa_Nettop_Mini_PC

hmmm... first off that's not a netbook, it's a 'nettop,' a mini desktop PC, which means you'd have to carry a monitor with you everywhere you go. Not what you're looking for.

I really don't think a nettop or netbook would be good for music either. If you're planning on using it for playback during performances and recording then you'll want something with decent integrated audio, and most netbooks are weak for audio.

Now there are external soundcards you could get to compensate if you don't mind having to carry an external device. I'm not to well up on what's a suitable model though.

Anyway, important question. What's the budget?

Hi, thanks for the reply! Max i could spend is about E400:(

I just thought the net-top looked a bit more compact.

    Thanks in advance

then a good idea might be to get something like an N130 (bout €280 shipped) and spend the remaining €120 on an external sound card. As for the Sound card itself though I'm not sure, there are different variants: USB, Firewire, ExpressCard, although i think a netbook will limit you to USB. Anyway, the likes of thomann.de or musicstore have a fairly sizeable range.

edit: might actually be better to ask on the DJing forum. A search revealed similar questions were asked there.
