LyX: cross references to figures

    I want to use cross references to figures in the document in this format:
    "Fig 1 shows blah blah"
    I'm not sure how to configure it to do this. I can get it to refer to the label as the label number, but that would only work properly if I don't use labels for anything apart from figures I think.

    edit: No I was mistaken; it increments the numbers for sections etc separately to how it increments for the figures, so it will provide consistent results so long as all the figs are labelled.

    As long as you use unique labels for everything, then you shouldn't have any problems. I find it helpful to begin figure labels with 'fig:', equation labels with 'eq:', etc.
