Ok so sky hd just installed about 10 mins ago. I dont know if its just me or the tv but the hd looked a lot better on 2 of my relations tvs. The tv is a full 1920x1080p panasonic plasma and I've watched hd-dvd's on it and I'm pretty sure they looked a lot better. Then I remembered seeing a post on here a few weeks ago about some other guy who had sky hd installed but there was some setting on his box that the installer never turned on and once he turned it on the picture quality removed drastically. It's all hooked up through hdmi. Any ideas?

Is the SKY box also connected via SCART? My Panasonic defaults to the SCART. It's a simpler setup for other users in the house. When I'm watching HD I set the Panny to HDMI through the remote and turn on the amp for the surround sound.

Hmm its set at 1080i. Maybe I'm just spoilt from watching Planet Earth HD-DVD on my philips lcd last night. The picture quality was so so much better on the philips tv (720p) that I just dont see how the 1080p panny can look nowhere near as good

Not too bad now. Got some recommended settings for the tv and the picture looks a lot better now. Luxe.tv seems to be a better picture quality picture too. Cheers guys

you wont see a huge difference between 720p and 1080p screens showing 1080i stuff.

as tony said make sure scart is off.

    switch between 272 and 273 :)

dont forget to connect the optical for surround sound. (hdmi only gives stereo from skyhd box)

You're right. I forgot that the planet earth hd-dvd is 1080p signal. I set the tv to dynamic mode and the colors are a lot more vibrant

if its a new plasma then you should have the brightness and contrast levels a little down for the first 200 hrs or so, (so the experts recon)
i did and cant complain on the pq now. :)

when its run in calibrate the screen for best performance.

Ah tis well run in. 1200 hours on it. Had it in cinema mode for the first 1000 hours or so to keep the settings down. Looks great now. The difference between the hd and normal channels is very clear now. Very happy with it :D

I beg to differ - when you are used to watching 1080i, 720p always looks very poor and its easy to spot

My son is always playing his PS3 on our 1080i TV and i can always tell when he is playing a 720p game without even looking at the box
