NTL Digital+ Install without TV present?

    Morning.

Can someone tell me if its possible for NTL to complete a Digital+ Tv installation without my TV actually being present? Reason being I have not yet moved into the new premises, and my so my TV will not be there today when they come to do the installation.

Can the engineer complete the install, register the decoder etc and I will connect the rest up this weekend when I move in?
The customer support reps were not able to tell me conclusively or not.

Possibly a silly question, any help would be appreciated.

The call agent should have told you that you need to have a 'working TV' (their words) when the guys come to do the installation, when they rang me the day before to confirm the appointment this is what they told me.

For the Digital service the installer has to do some setup with menus on the TV after they have done the cabling to make sure that it's all setup properly, I don't think they will do any part of the setup unless you have a TV there for them to use because experience probably tells them that they'll have to come back anyway and visiting you twice costs them more so they won't do it.

If you're not getting HD see if you can borrow any old crappy TV with a SCART socket, you'll need a HDMI socket for HD.

the hd box also has a scart connection.

    Thanks.

They have not called to confirm the installation today either. Although they did confirm that it was still scheduled when I called to question about the TV issue.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it did or not.

Most of the installers have the new promax meters which will double up as a TV as well .

So the installer will be able to show it to you working and you can connect when you have your TV

    Thanks Bazzy!

Install went fine, the Tv service looked to be working but when I checked it later in the evening I was prompted with a "This smart card belongs to another decoder..." - I rebooted the decoder which didn't resolve the issue. Is this usual for a new install, I have yet to call the call centre.

was there a tv there at time of install?

Yep there was. I near broke my neck yesterday driving across town, fetched a Tv and got it to the house just as the installers arrived...

Nope. While the channels were "loading" the engineer said we just needed to reboot it once it was done. At that stage I had to leave to get back to work...
I'm moving into the residence in a few weeks, bit of a hold up. Is it ok to plug my decoder in at my current residence to test it out, or are the decoders "fixed" to specific circuts/ports on the NTL network?
