Focus Bikes in Ireland

I was in a bike shop yesterday looking for my new MTB. The sales guy told me that they are going to be selling Focus bikes, sole distributors in Ireland. They are expecting them in an about 2 weeks time.

Mods, can I name the shop or not? I have no association with them other than being a potential customer!

Will be interesting to see how the prices compare to Wiggle.

Name the shop. We are forever naming shops here, and some of it it could be considered slanderous. So (while I am not a mod) I see no harm in advertising that a bike beloved on this forum would be for sale in a LBS.

Perhaps with the recent price increases Focuses are now so expensive that an Irish bike shop would consider selling them alongside their badge-engineered €1k Tiagracycles. :pac:

cant see how they can compete with wiggle ? nice to see someone taking it on though

Will they be able to match Wiggle on pricing though?

I don't see it neccessarily as a good thing. If their contract does state that they are the sole distributors for Focus in Ireland, that means that Wiggle wont be allowed to send bikes here anymore. Considering the fact that it's a bricks and mortar shop, their overhead is going to be higher than Wiggles, so Focuses will be even more expensive than now.

But i think it would be safe to assume they will be getting them cheaper than Wiggle are selling them, ok they may not as cheap but i would hope they will be close to the wiggle price!

    If we're doing a sweepstake, I'll take:

    €1400 for a Focus Cayo 105 (€1123.97 on Wiggle)
€1800 for a Focus Cayo Ultegra (€1,486.65 on Wiggle)

Being the only one in Ireland who sells focus bikes is not the same thing as being the only one in Ireland who is allowed to sell focus bikes. I'd be surprised if focus's contract with wiggle precluded them from selling because of another another distributor. We'll see. Wiggle sell a lot of bikes for focus.

This might be just salesman talk!

I compared the price of the bike I was looking at in his shop versus some uk prices which google turned up and they seem to be way way overpriced (Raleigh Mtax 1.0 for €1,000 versus a uk RRP of £600 ).

Hopefully Wiggle will continue to sell in Ireland!

    Which shop is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭Repolho

Seeing as no Mod has said otherwise I am assuming I can name the shop?

Its Eurocycles. It was the branch in Newbridge, Co Kildare which I visited.

True, but having a 'sole distributor' makes it sound exactly the way Trek works in Ireland now. Evans cycles can't sell any Trek bikes to Ireland, because Centro have the contract to be sole Trek distributors here. Naturally enough, this ends up with Centro prices (and thus all LBS ones) being higher than Evans is.

I thought that was because trek don't want their bikes sold online?

    Exactly.

Anyway I asked in Eurocycles about this and they said they should be in by the end of next week. No indication of which models or what prices though.

I wonder if the majority of Focus and planet X bikes in ireland are a direct result from people reading this forum. If so does someone want to approach the websites and try get a special discount ?

Not me, im just the idea man.

In France the bikes are the same price as Wiggle. I am familiar with this shop in Cognac but they obviously don't carry the range that Wiggle do. Hopefully the same will hold for Ireland:rolleyes:

That looks like the 2008 model, which was much cheaper on the Wiggle site I believe.

that link has a 2009 cayo for 1519 reduced from 1899 euro not so  they dont sell the 105

mine was £986 (which at the time was 1280 euro i think according to wiggle)

and the exchange rate has got better for us since then

but i guess thats the rrp either that or french shops are marking up more than irish, if an irish shop charges that there will be a rush for ribbles dolans and planetx's

oops sorry didnt notice it was the ultegra - i am an idiot - apologies, white stem and fizik saddle shoulda given it away

    mmmmmm cognac

guess they have to make up for cheap cognac, camped down the road in jarnac wonderful spot

and yes i did go to the courvoisier museum (just opened the week we were there)

they have a pineux and melon festival - just missed that

this post now makes no sense

The bike is a 2009 Ultegra equipped Cayo bike which is same price on Wiggle

Jarnac is a nice town. Hope you got to visit the headquarters of Courvoisier! and had a chance to sampled the goods.

Thanks penexpers. I'm guessing that was the Newbridge branch?

I'll have to call in next week, WLTB an new Raven.

Was into them again today. "Next Friday" seems to be a catchphrase of theirs. Still no sign of Focus bikes or prices or even an idea of what models.

So they finally got them in and the pricing is kind of ok.

The GBP999 Mares is 1199 euro. The GBP1199 Mares is 1299 euro. Last year's Variado Compact is 899 (I think it is anyway). There's also 20% off at the moment as a special offer.

They also had some MTB's but sure who cares about them ;)

He said the Cayo would be in sometime in the new year.

Thanks for the heads up ;)

I'm in the market for a new MTB, I'll try to call into them in the next few days. My Cayo is still going strong, great bike. I'll certianly consider getting another Focus.
