I stayed in Budget Backpackers in Cowgate a few weeks back, great location right near clubs, pubs, restaurants and a short walk from most of the sights. Plus it was only £13 or something a night for a dorm room.

I second Budget Backpackers. I've stayed there twice and both times were great! Great atmosphere too!

Head to the Grassmarket or Cowgate.

Its where all the lads night out type venues are.

Apex city hotel would probably suit you. It's in Grassmarket and reasonably enough priced for Edinburgh.

try castle apartments which are literally 200 yards from the castle and 5 minutes walk to the grassmarket area and about 10-15 minutes walk to george st. We stayed there in May on a stag weekend and couldn't fault them !
