Newbie Question on Freesat Installation

    Hi,
I'm fed up with Sky and about to press the abort button in favour of Freesat.

I have a few basic questions.

I thing of buying the HUMAX Foxsat HDR. Irish websites are retailing at 390 euro whearas Dixon's up north is 268 euro.

I'm assuming its the same box and installation is straight forward . Is this correct ??

I also assume my sky dish has a single LNB and to optimise the features of the HUMAX box ( record 2 channels simultaniously and watch a 3rd ) I require a DUAL LNB and 2 coax's.

Is this a diy job ?

Will I affect the line up of the existing LNB by replacing it with a dual one ?

My one fear is I make a mess of the installation and might require a professional installer .

Anyone reccommend one in the Dublin / Kildare area ?

    All comments welcome.

    Yes.

It's easier to source a Quad LNBF for a Sky minidish, and the 3rd output can be used with your Sky box in another room for FTA stuff.

Yes, can be DIY. Won't affect the dish if you don't move it.

change the lnb to a quad, if you can access the dish safety and easily then its easy to do,

run a second coax to your viewing point,

you can run a third to use the old sky box for free stations.

have a look at post # 5 from here

Whow.... where did you get that quote?
You can get one delivered to your door for €303.98 from Richer Sounds:

Don't have any personal experience with the Humax HDR, but from what I have heard on here, its the best around.

The Foxsat HDR is a brilliant piece of kit, but it has a few foibles.

    1. It only records from the satelite, not from the HDMI or SCART. So you cannot record RTE.

    2. Once you start recording, you cannot cancel.

    3. If you want to record one program ending at 8pm say, and another starting at 8pm, you can get a conflict.

    4. You can not get Sky News as it is not on Freesat, but you can set up the unit as a FTA one, but that negates everything as you lose the EPG.

Otherwise, brilliant. Great pcture quality. Easy to use EPG.

Tks for the quick replies , I think I'll go down the DIY road.

John Mac / How do I do this ?

Just connect the reciever to the Satellite, without using a sky card.
