Christmas payscale

I'm working abroad on a customer site for the past couple of months. Expenses etc make it quite a little earner, especially "in these recessionary times".

Anyway.. now they're looking for someone to stay here over the christmas holidays, which will involve some days working, and some days on call. As I'm several thousand miles from home, there is no way I'll even make it home for christmas day. I'm guessing, I'll be expected to remain completely sober during the time on-call as well.

I've been told to put together my requests as to what the payscale should be. Since the taxman would take half of whatever I'd earn via this, I'm thinking that it might be better to take it as time in lieu that I can take at my leisure in 2010. Something along the lines of triple time for hours worked, and single time for hours on call, up to possibly a max of 25 days holidays earned.

Anyone got any experience of this and what the standard is?

    Thanks....

I had 2x salary as estra on 25th (i.e. 3x salary in total for that day) and 0.5x salary as extra on 26th when I did Christmas for a 24/7 place before.

You will most likely need to work it out per day but you could always try to argue for an over all deal (i.e. I do all the work between X and Z and get 10 days off kind of thing). Don't forget to include the additional cost for Christmas dinner etc.
