This is probably a stupid question to people here ,but is there any issues with loudness(fan) on the new 360's at the moment?
I'm seriously thinking of getting a 360 elite forza pack.
Have a ps3 at the moment and just finishing drakes ,want to try a 360 now if they are quieter.

    Thanks.

I got one of those Forza bundles. I had a "first generation" Elite (they have the "Falcon" chipset or motherboard, or whatever they call them). The new Forza one has the "Jasper" motherboard and chipset. This means it has small (60nm?) processors, has a smaller power brick and should run cooler and quieter.

It is definitely quieter than my old Elite. It is still not as quiet as my old PS3 40gb or my newer PS3 Slim. One thing I will say in favour of this new machine is that although it is nowhere near silent, it does not have that very anoying high-pitched whine the Falcon had.

I must say, I got a fantastic deal on a trade-in at GameStop in Blanch. I had my Elite on sale at Adverts for 195 expecting to let it go for less than that but more that 150 (which what GameStop had offered on a trade-in). No one was interested, so I ended the sale. But when I went up to GameStop, two very friendly and pleasant girls working there told me that since they were offering 35% extra on trade-ins, they would give me 187.50 for my old Elite. Ended up changing for just over €110. Really pleased with it.

Cheers 3rdDegree ,I wasn't sure if the new chips have been put into new machines or not. I don't have any experience with 360's at all.

I almost bought the forza pack today ,but might get the call of duty pack instead, thinking it might be better than the ps3.

Just reading 3rdDegree`s post got me thinking.
Im considering an Elite myself but where you mentioned your "old Elite" got me wondering how many versiosn of the Elite are there?
I was looking at the ones in Smyths for 249 euro, would these be a "quiet" Elite? Just how many generations of the Elite are there guys?

Make sure it's a "Jasper" chipset console, they've been around just over a year so I'd be surprised if there are many of the older ones around. Check the dates on the box for a hint, if you're buying I'm sure somewhere will let you check before you buy. :)
Look around for deals because to me 249 sounds a little on the high side, then again I just don't see any real benefit in the Elite. Happy hunting. :)

Similar to 3rdDegree, got the new 360 Elite Forza3 Bundle, quieter than my old 20 gig Xbox, but not as quiet as my fat PS3 80gig. Can't hear it now though, playing Forza !
