Ah, I tormented myself with that question myself about 8 years ago when I was building my own house.
Eventually I came to the conclusion that if timber frame construction was so noisy there would be no-one living in two story houses in any estates.

I am building with concrete everything..... Well walls, stairs and floors anyway.

I am driven wild by people walking around upstairs and listening to next door plugging things into the wall sockets and also climbing the stairs let alone if someone decides to play music or watch a show on TV.

Even if you go concrete you would need a concrete floor to prevent the noise fully.

I know timber frames can be sound insulated etc but its nothing like a big concete slab. I have lived in cheap council timber frames to expensive German quality homes and even they still anoy me as its just about still there.
