hey folks, not really a personal problem but no better place to ask,
im a guy and was wondering what is the method or the right way to do a continental greeting, the one where they appear to kiss on the cheek?
is it an actual lips touching the cheek job or just rubbing/stubble-rash cheek to cheek operation? (when greeting girls specifically):D

Specify 'continental' please. The continent of Europe is vast with a large number of different cultures, some of which would even consider such a kiss-in-greeting inappropriate.

If it's someone you know well (and like), it's a proper kiss on both cheeks. Otherwise it's just a cheek-to-cheek thing.

  • It's supposed to be an air kiss but I always end up kissing the person's cheek, as well as stepping on their foot and banging noses as we both go for the same cheek. But it is supposed to be an air kiss. How many kisses depends on the country and sometimes on the region of the country.

Where I am in France, it's a cheek-to-cheek kiss, two of them.

I find that it's only among friends, nobody does it at work, except for people who are close friends outside work.

It really does vary wildly though depending on where you are and what your relationship with the person is. Best thing to do is to watch what other people do and follow their lead.

Where I was in south of France it was 3 kisses. Right cheek, left cheek, right cheek.

I made many a faux pas. You really get looked at strangely if you forget to do it. Like you peed in their cheerios.

It's cheek to cheek contact with air kissing. you don't want to do it with colleagues or people you have just met, but only with close friends and family
