dont think the car type exactly matters, but how and ever! i have the digital heater, and no matter what, i cant get any air hot or cold to blow! is it a problem with the unit, the filter, or something else? very annoying having it set to demist the windscreen when it rains, and just having it get foggier and foggier!

something even less important... i have a front seat thats in its fully forward position, and the lever to move it back does nothing...cant move the seat back! also cant expose the front screws to remove the seat.. does anyone know how to get the seat to move back?

What year is the car? What mileage?

Do you have any other intermittent electrical faults? Warning lights going on and off? Lights not working? Radio not working?

its a 99 with 157000 on it...no no electrical problems, everything is fine on it apart from the heater really.

There is a resistor on the e46 that gives trouble and causes the climate control to stop working but im not sure about the e36. Its located behind the dash and you can get to it from down at the pedals. (to the left of the clutch) Its a bit tricky but nothing too hard if your confident enough. ;)
