At risk of sounding xenophobic, does anyone feel that the Aussie majority of top RU coaches in Ireland is having a negative effect on the Irish coaching system.

What do ye think? Am I just being paranoid? If we can develop the players, why can't we develop our own elite coaches?

Nah, because the next generation of Irish coaches will learn from the Aussies.

What do the Aussies possess that we don't?
Matt Williams was useless at Leinster&Ulster,
    Knox was a freak,
McGahan has been a let down,
Laurie Fisher hasn't improved anything in the Munster forwards,
Alan Gaffney is a 'nearly man',
    In fairness Cheika surprised everyone.

I just think there's a little too much Australian influence in Irish Rugby.

Matt Williams was useless at Leinster&Ulster,
Brought professional Rugby to Leinster. Before he came the Leinster players didn't even have full time access to gym!

The Matt Williams first 15 was the best team in Europe and probably the best Leinster team we've ever had.
    Knox was a freak,
Greatly improved skill level of Leinster players.
I just think there's a little too much Australian influence in Irish Rugby.
Irish rugby is a minority sport, everyone knows everyone. People are in clicks that go back years. We need a healthy selection of over sea's coaches / players to stop the clicks getting out of control.

    Knox was a freak,

He was a genius though. The Leinster backline under him was amazing.
McGahan has been a let down,

Munster played some of the best rugby I have ever seen at the beginning of last season under McGahan I wouldn't write him off just yet

He inherited a Heineken Cup winning team, that Munster team led itself, I think McGahan recognised this and stood back in order to let the team flourish. I also think he can't take credit for unleashing Keith Earls onto the rugby world, Kidney had him on the bench in the HC final so it was always going to happen.

Ffs, some of the comments here.
3 out of 4 of the Irish coaches are from overseas (Les, Gert, Gaffer).
These three fellas are very influential factors as to why the flagship team of the sport has won the first 6N Grand Slam since 1948.
Tony McGahan was a coach with the Munster ERC winning side before he took over as main coach.
Alan Gaffney and Michael Cheika both coached Leinster to an outstanding ERC victory. A "nearly man"??? Lol He's been coaching with two winning sides.

    Mick Bradley is A coach.
    Allen Clarke U20s.
Last I looked they both had distinguishable Irish caps under their belt.
    Brian McLoughlin at Ulster?

Who cares where the coaches come from? If they're good enough to do a top job then that's nothing wrong with that.
Anyone who won't coach because they dont want to be up against overseas peers for roles, should never coach.

The true gauge of the Irish coaching system is the success of the teams they coach. We're in the season after the greatest ever in the Irish modern game, a few losses have occurred and now its all gone belly-up?
    Wake up

    - Matt Williams useless!? Direct you to Tim Robbin's post.

    - Knox a freak? So fcuking what!? Apparently as mad a player as a coach, he had Leinster's backs playing beautifully.

    - McGahan? Won Munster a very very good ML, had Munster's backs playing rugby for the first time ever. Yeah, he's not doing great, I agree, but Uncle Deccie wouldn't do any better with that squad atm I reckon.

    - Laurie Fisher does appear to be shíte. Can't win 'em all.

    - Gaffney, well, not sure I like the rugby, but a GS and a HC. Etc.

    - Cheika, worth it for Elsom alone. :pac: Leinster were a fcuking shambles when he took over. Look at us now.

Williams was gentleman and a brilliant coach, particularly in his short time in Ulster - a massive loss there. And what a great interviewee - always my favourite coach to listen to post-match.

Knox was (as demonstrated yet again recently), a genius. Far from a gentleman, but a true genius.
