I'm fairly new to road cycling but it's probably the most fun (and addictive) thing going. What sort of pace are the boards spins around the (dublin/wicklow) mountains. And are there any during the winter???? I'm goin to assume they are open to any one whose up for a ride :)

Anyone is welcome at a boards spin. Usually advertised on Thur/Fri.
Way they operate is that set out and come back as a group. Climb at your own pace, and group regroups at the top of each climb.

A little chaotic and unstructured. But the can be great fun (maybe because of) nonetheless.

Pace depends, but I have done spins at 20-26km avg. Depends on how quick you can climb tbh.

On the flat it would help to be abale to sustain a 30-35km average for a reasonable length of time - otherwise it might get lonely.

There are a great range of cycling abilitis at most spins. However, from my own experience it is more enjoyable if you can at least cycle at pace on the flat/descent. It would help to be a better climber, as spins are usually hilly. However I have been on a fair few boards spins, and am a very poor climber. The folks have been good enough to wait for me.

Go out on the next one and try it for size.
