Want to have both Sky Hd and freesat...

    Probably a silly question but...

Moving into a new house soon enough and there isn't an existing satellite dish so one needs to be installed.

I want to order sky and get HD sports etc. for the living room but instead of (having to pay for) sky multiroom, i have an old sky box and ftv card (probably obsolete now) along with a freesat box and also a pc card sat card.

Is it possible to get Sky to install just the HD box downstairs but install the sat cabling for the other rooms or do i need to get an independent contractor for the inital installation or possibly after sky have been in?

And how much would it cost any of way if anyone has any idea...?

The Sky installer will def install the dish and do the cabling for your Sky+ HD box.
Ask him to install an octo lnb if he has one, other wise he will only attach a quad.
You will need five inputs on the lnb (Sky+ HD = 2, Old Sky box = 1, Freesatbox = 1, Sat card = 1)

If the installer does have an octo lnb in the back of the van, he will probably want a few extra bob for it.
Don't know if he will put in more cabling for you, me might have some excuss like he does not have the time.
It might all depend on how nice the guy is.

You don't need and FTV card for your old sky reciever. The only advantage is FIVE and Channel 4 +1 on the EPG plus Fiver US and the others in that family.

DIY sat cabling isn't that hard, with help form some of the guys on here, I was able to hook up my old sky box for FTA.
This time last July I knew nothing about satellite set up's :D

tbh i'd probably get away with a quad lnb. (Not sure if the sky card is still valid).

I'm presuming they don't disable the other two outputs on the quad lnb so it's the extra cabling that looks like it might be the problem then.

Easy enough to get a local installer to this cheaply? (don't have the equipment eg, drills/ladder to be doing it myself)

If you are going to use your old Sky reciever for FTA then you won't need a viewing card. You might need one if you are ordering Sky Box Office events and the such on the old reciever.

No they can't disable inputs so feel free to connect to any of the two spare inputs you want.

groovy. might just get the hd installation and see if i can get them to cable two other rooms

and if not i'll get someone in or try it myself if i can borrow a drill and get some cable
