Wonder could any of you techno heads help me out here.

Recently bought a toshiba 32" high def tv, when playing cod4 at 720p the screen is perfect, no problems.

When watching blu rays or else using the internet browser or looking at photos the screen keeps momentarily flashing black, for like a millisecond, really really annoying. it could happen twice then maybe not happen for about 15 seconds, then bang will happen again. Doesn't happen when playing tiger woods either which is 1080.

Any help please this is driving me mad :(

What do you mean "flashing back"?

Is your TV Full HD 1080p?

The picture will momentarily disappear for a millisecond, screen goes black and then the picture comes back perfectly. No correlation to the time it seems to take, sometimes can be two "blinks" sometimes one, then its fine for about 10 seconds then it'll happen again.

Only time i notice it is when using the internet browser, or if im in the ps3 homescreen or when i tried to watch batman the dark knight.

Im not sure about the TV as its at my student house and im home atm, its one of the three at the top of this search :

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search?ie=UTF8&keywords=toshiba%20regza%2032&tag=syr01632-21&index=electronics-uk&linkCode=ur2&camp=1634&creative=6738

I dont know much about these situations but it plays tiger woods perfectly at 1080 and cod4 at 720? Could it be when not playing games the ps3 is trying to stream video out at resolutions higher than my tv can support?

Any help much appreciated guys as this is driving me mad.

that TV is 720P not 1080P.
Have a look at the label on the back fo the TV to get the actual model number and look it up under Toshibas website

Try setting your PS3 to only output 720P and see if that sorts it.
But since you say games are ok I wonder...

If after putting PS3 to 720P it still happens - is probably a probalem with the HDMI cable and/or the TV. I've seen others complaining about getting the odd bad cable from Tesco (just guessing since you gave us a tesco link), bring it back and replace for another.

This is my exact tv :

what do you guys mean when you say it is not "full hd"? I havnt a clue about this.

ive used my ps3 at my dads house before i got this tv and it was a massive one which is def "full hd" i think, could my ps3 be defaulting and trying to output at that?

its perfect for cod and tiger woods, just when i am in the main ps3 screen, internet browser, or watching dark knight on blu ray, havnt tried any other films.

    any ideas?

    any help much much appreciated.

That sounds pretty likely to me. "Full HD" does 1080p, while your "HD Ready" can only do lower resolution at 720p (or 1080i) - so I'd guess setting the PS3 to 720p or 1080i might fix the problem, like RikD suggests.

    Or not. :)

It could be your HDMI cable. I have a similar problem except that it can happen me when I'm playing games, the TV suddenly starts trying to switch to different resolutions and aspects. It's a pain in the ass when playing online games like Call of Duty as I can only see a blank screen while the TV switches resolutions and then I end up getting killed by a guy who probably wonders why I was trying to run through a wall :)

I'll probably borrow a different HDMI cable and see if that makes a difference.

was the tv at ur dads, the fist one ya connected to usin a hdmi lead,
if so the ps3 selects the highest resolution available which is 1080p
so if ur tv is only 1080i it will still try display at 1080p so that could be the problem

with the ps3 on standby, the red light on, press and hold the power button on the front until it beeps twice, that will reset the display settins and when ya turn the ps3 back on it will ask what settins ya want to use, make sure that only 720p is selected and see how ya go with that
