Hello I am new to this forum and would be thankful for advice with the following.
I wish to change from my sky+ but want to receive the freesat channels. Am I right in thinking I need a freesat dish, a set top with hard disc (to record) and a dtt aerial. Will I be able to record the Irish channels on the hard disc box if I have a dtt aerial or do I need a combo box. Are combo boxes available from Irish suppliers that would fit also.

You have a sky dish so keep it.

All you need to have installed is an RTE DTT aerial.

All you need to buy is an Mvision HD Combo.

Plug the satellite cable and the RTE DTT cable into the Mvision .

Buy a 120g USB drive if you want to record.

OH! and do not forget to cancel sky. 28 days notice and all that.

Does the Mvision have a full 7-day EPG for the UK sat channels now?

Thanks a lot for your help Steve. Can I check with you if you are using a DTT aerial what the quality of picture etc. has been like.
    Thanks again Doireann1

The type of aerial you need depends on where you live. If you live in Dublin or Cork city, for example, a set of rabbit ears will suffice. If you live further away from the transmitters, you'll need an attic or roof mounted external UHF aerial - the frequency group will again depend on your area and which transmitter you can receive a signal from.

The quality of the DTT pictures is equivalent or superior to that on Sky. However, they are still conducting trials, so you may find that not all of the 4 channels are transmitted - TV3 is often replaced with a testcard.

The MVision is the worst of the combo boxes in my opinion, as it only has the "now and next" channel listings on the EPG for the satellite channels - this is a pain, particularly if you have been used to a full EPG like Sky+. The other boxes mentioned in the thread above have full EPG listings. And the AZbox premium and the DM8000 have internal hard drives, rather than external USB ones like the MVision.

Thanks again Apogee, I live in Leixlip, Co Kildare. I am very interested in buying a combo box but think I will wait a year or so and hope the trials have cocluded by then.
